Question:

I’m interested in ways to share my enjoyment of music and audio with my significant other, who seems at most times only mildly interested. Any ideas?

Answer:

This appears to be a somewhat common issue. We certainly do not have a perfect or silver bullet answer. But we do think it is an important topic. We have discussed this with a range of people, and we’ve heard one common thread which we will share here (again, not a silver bullet!).

The common thread is to make music listening together into an event. This could be like “date night”. Or like a party. Or like attending a concert.

First things first, we note that events start with an invitation. This might seem like overkill, but formalizing this a bit may work for some people. At a minimum, it signals care and it honors the time of your invitee.

Another thing that events have is a program. We, as concert-goers, like the idea of the concert model at home. “You are cordially invited to a performance of Beethoven’s 7
